Fort Washington Medical Center Announces Appointment of Chief Operating Officer

Fort Washington Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Howard Ainsley, MHA, as Chief Operating Officer effective immediately.

In this role, Ainsley will lead the day-to-day operations across the organization.

Mr. Ainsley is a seasoned healthcare executive with over twenty years of experience. He has successfully led cultural transformations, several hospital turnarounds and a multitude of operational improvement initiatives. Most recently, Ainsley served as interim chief executive officer for Jackson Executives, one of the largest healthcare staffing companies in the United States.

Ainsley’s extensive background includes serving as president and chief executive officer for Morehead Memorial Hospital and the regional chief executive officer for East Hawaii/Hilo Medical Center, the nation’s fourth largest public health system. Prior to East Hawaii/Hilo Medical Center, he was the chief operating officer for Corpus Christi Medical Center in Corpus Christi, Texas. Ainsley also spent 17 years with Virginia-based Carilion Health System. During his tenure, he served in a variety of roles including president and chief executive officer of Carilion Bedford Memorial Hospital in Bedford, Virginia, and president and chief executive officer of Carilion Wythe County Community Hospital in Wytheville, Virginia.

Ainsley has a Master of Health Administration from George Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Western Carolina University. Currently, he serves as adjunct faculty member at George Washington University, Old Dominion University, and Champlain College.

Ainsley has been a member of various Rotary clubs for over 25 years, and has served as Board member of multiple Chambers of Commerce in several states. He currently serves as a healthcare speaker evaluator for Becker’s Hospital Review. His wife Carolyn is a physical therapist and they have two children, Newman and Lauren.
