The MT/MLT (“Tech”) is responsible for collecting, accessioning, and properly ordering specimens for in-house and send out testing. The “Tech” is responsible for performing requested testing, ensuring all suspicious and/or critical results are confirmed before, and results are accurately reported in a timely manner. The MT/MLT will operate assigned equipment in accordance with training and manufacturer guidelines, to ensure testing results. The “Tech” will perform quality control, including troubleshooting out of range values, and ensuring accuracy prior to patient results being reported. The MT/MLT will perform preventive and scheduled maintenance, as well as troubleshooting problems, and documenting accordingly. The “Tech” will be responsible for providing technical assistance to co-workers and assist in the training of new employees when assigned. The MT/MLT will participate in proficiency testing programs; demonstrate knowledge of laboratory safety and infection control, including proper use of PPE; and adhering to accreditation requirements. The “Tech” will contribute to the effective operation of the laboratory, including maintaining adequate stock; maintaining logs and records; demonstrating good oral and written communication, including required telephone identification; and assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory. The MT/MLT must participate in continuing education, comply with the hospital and departmental procedures and policies and assist physicians and nurses when necessary. The “Tech” will serve all age groups and perform additional tasks, as required to ensure laboratory operations.

- EDUCATION: 2 or 4 year Degree in Clinical Laboratory Science; or Bachelor’s Degree in Biological or Chemical Science; or Accredited Military institution.
- EXPERIENCE: 2 years as Generalist able to work Blood Bank with minimal supervision.
- LICENSURE: Certification by nationally recognized accrediting agency required.
- SKILLS: Computer skills to include Basic Knowledge of Word and Excel, Able to multitask
