Director of Professional Practice and Development

Job Description

The Director of Professional Practice and Development will be responsible for:

New Employee Orientation
Nursing Orientation
Hospital-wide Mandatory Education and competency assessment
Orientation of others to the facility (i.e. nursing/radiology students and forensic officers)
Meeting unit specific education needs as requested/indicated
Clinical safety programs
Patient Advocacy programs
Community Education programs
Basic Life Support/Advanced Life Support/Pediatric Advanced Life Support
Freedom from Smoking classes offered to the employees and the community
American Academy of Critical Care Nurses Dysrhythmia class
Assisting with Hospital Performance Improvement activities
Participating on the Nursing Policy and Procedure Committee
Duties relating to a community liaison with municipalities involved in disaster preparedness
Environment of Care Joint Commission Standards related to Disaster Preparedness, including the Emergency Operations Plan
Other duties as assigned

Education: BA/BS required (BSN preferred); Masters of Science in Education, Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Informatics, or Healthcare Policy preferred.
Experience: Minimum of ten years clinical experience within an acute care setting.
Licenseure: Registered Nurse licensed within the State of Maryland. BLS (American Heart Association)
Skills: Ability to articulate and promote the mission and values of Fort Washington Medical Center. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills to positively motivate diverse groups of learners (employees, students, physicians, and community lay persons) towards transformational learning.. Ability to evaluate effectiveness of education programs through outcome assessment. Ability to design and implement education programs. Ability to promote interdisciplinary teamwork and effective communication.
