General Surgeon Joins Fort Washington Medical Center's Medical Team

Fort Washington Medical Center (FWMC) is pleased to announce Sharnell Smith, M.D., as an addition to the hospital’s medical staff.

Board certified in General Surgery, Dr. Smith has progressive experience in medical and acute surgical and elective care hospital operations. Prior to joining FWMC, she served as the acute care trauma surgeon at Winchester Medical Center in Virginia. Her surgical specializations include hernia repair, breast surgery, gallbladder surgery and colorectal surgery.

“We are pleased to welcome Dr. Smith to Fort Washington Medical Center,” said FWMC Chief Medical Officer Victor Waters, M.D., J.D. “Her drive for quality care, surgical experience and passion for patient relations, makes her an excellent addition to the hospital’s medical team.”

Dr. Smith earned her medical degree at Howard University College of Medicine in the District of Columbia. She completed her residency in general surgery at Howard University Hospital. She also attended Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, where she attained her Bachelor of Science degree in biology.

She is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Medical Association. Dr. Smith will see patients and perform procedures at Fort Washington Medical Center located at 11711 Livingston Road, Fort Washington, Maryland. To schedule an appointment, call (301) 310-6802.
